How to add it to your email
- Gmail: Settings, See all settings, General, then Signature. Create a new signature and paste.
- Outlook: Settings, Account, then Signatures. Create a new signature and paste.
- Apple Mail on a Mac: Mail, Settings, Signatures. Add a signature, untick "Always match my default message font", then paste.
Menus move between versions, so if yours looks different, search your email program's help for "signature".
What an agent's email signature should show
Your email signature is advertising like your card and your website, so give it the same care. Each state sets its own rules, and your licensee may have its own policy, so check with them before you use it.
- Your agency, as the licensee. Name the agency or licence holder you work under, the way your licensee wants it shown.
- Your licence or registration number, where it's required. In South Australia, for example, the regulator says the agent's registration number must appear on property advertisements. Our guide to advertising rules by state links each regulator's guidance.
- An accurate title. If you're registered rather than licensed, don't use a title that suggests otherwise. Western Australia's guidance, for example, says sales representatives can't advertise themselves as an "agent", "principal" or "licensee".
- Text, not one big image. Many email programs block images until the reader allows them, so your name and number should be real text.
- A link to your own website. It's where a vendor checks your sales and reviews before they call.
When you change agencies, update your signature on your first day, along with your card and website. Our changing agencies checklist covers the rest.
